Anybody who has tried to lose weight has tried a diet pill or weight loss program that did not work out quite the way they thought it would this does not necessarily mean that all over the counter diet pills are not effective. When it comes to diet pills many people automatically assume that if they are only available through a prescription that it makes them a more effective pill than an over the counter weight loss medication. If this was the case there would be no question about what are the best weight loss pills or medications and how successful they have been.
Prescription diet pills do have to be approved by the FDA and by this association there is some comfort in knowing that it has been through testing and has shown some success and can be monitored for health complications. One problem when a diet pill is approved by the FDA the public automatically assumes that it will work, when in truth just because a diet pill has been approved by the FDA there is no guarantee that it will be more effective than an over the counter pill. Being approved by the FDA really just means that it could help with weight loss and that the medication involved might not necessarily be designed just for weight loss. Prescription weight loss pills also bring many health factors into the equation, most prescription pills can cause many serious and harmful health problems.
Over the counter diet pills on the other hand are not subject to the scrutiny of the FDA, this is both good and bad. The bad part is that if they are not under the thumb of the FDA it usually means that it has ingredients that are as not as powerful as ones found in prescription pills.
